YouTube unveils new guidelines to crack down on medical misinformation

ANKARA, Turkiye (AA) – Social media platform YouTube has announced that it will remove content that contradicts guidelines from local health authorities or the World Health Organization.
The company said the action was taken to prevent the spread of medical misinformation through its platform.
The company said it needs a policy framework that will last in the long term and maintain the balance between removing harmful content and ensuring space for debate and discussion.
The company said it will consolidate dozens of its existing medical misinformation policies into three categories — prevention, treatment, and denial.
Content will also be removed if it contradicts health authorities’ guidelines on the prevention, transmission, and treatment of certain health conditions.
