Young Muslim saves 17 people, including baby, from a fire in France
PARIS – A young French Muslim risked his life by entering a burning building to save 17 people, including a baby.
He is now being hailed as a hero.
As reported by the radio station France Bleu, a fire broke out on Friday in a two-story building in Romans-sur-Isere in southeastern France.
Izzeddin Hamdi, a baker, rushed into the building and managed to save 17 people, including a baby, from the fire.
Despite the flames and smoke, he got into the building through the window with the help of a ladder.
Many Twitter users said he deserves the Legion of Honor, France’s highest order of merit.
Hamdi had already saved people before firefighters arrived on the scene.
Baptiste Devis, one of the firefighters, said the flames were 5-6 meters high when they arrived to put out the fire.
