Yemen says 10 soldiers killed in rebel attack in Taiz
SANAA, Yemen (AA) – At least 10 Yemeni soldiers were killed in a rebel attack in the central Taiz province, according to authorities on Monday.
A Foreign Ministry statement said Houthi rebels mounted a deadly attack late Sunday in al-Dhabab district, west of Taiz city. The ministry said seven other soldiers were injured in the attack.
The Yemeni army said 23 rebels were killed and 30 others injured in the attack, without providing further details.
The Yemeni authorities termed the attack “an attempt to undermine efforts to extend the humanitarian truce and tighten the 7-year siege on Taiz.”
On August 2, Yemen’s warring rivals agreed to extend a UN-brokered truce for two additional months. Under the cease-fire, which was first reached on April 2, all military operations were halted.
Yemen has been engulfed by violence since 2014, when Iran-aligned Houthi rebels captured much of the country, including Sanaa.
