World Central Kitchen pauses Gaza operations after Israeli airstrike hits staff
ISTANBUL (AA) – World Central Kitchen suspended Saturday its operations in Gaza following an Israeli airstrike that struck a vehicle carrying its staff members.
“We are heartbroken to share that a vehicle carrying World Central Kitchen colleagues was hit by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza,” the organization said in a statement on X.
WCK clarified that it had “no knowledge that any individual in the vehicle had alleged ties to the Oct. 7 Hamas attack.”
Israel’s war on Gaza has killed nearly 44,4000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and injured over 105,100.
One estimate in the British medical journal the Lancet said that the death toll may be as high as 186,000.
On Nov. 21, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its deadly war on Gaza.
