Woman shot dead in California for refusing to take down LGBTQ+ flag
SACRAMENTO, California – A woman in California, Laura Ann Carleton, was allegedly shot and killed for refusing to take down an LGBTQ+ rainbow flag displayed outside her business.
The incident occurred at Carleton’s store Mag.Pi in Cedar Glen, east of Los Angeles.
The shooter, Travis Ikeguchi, was later killed by police officers after shooting at her.
Ikeguchi was known for posting anti-LGBTQ content on social media.
Korey Pollard, a close friend of Carleton, told the media that she was determined to uphold the rainbow flag despite the criticism.
Ikeguchi ripped down the flag and hurled homophobic words at Carleton before fatally striking her.
Carleton, also known as “Lauri,” leaves behind a husband and nine children from a mixed-race family.
Although Carleton herself was not part of the LGBTQ+ community, a nearby LGBTQ group highlighted her advocacy and support for all.
Travis Ikeguchi was confronted by police after the shooting and was involved in a shootout that led to his death.
The handgun he used was not registered to him.
The incident remains under investigation, with authorities looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the use of the weapon.
