Wildfires smother US, Canada, triggering air quality alerts
Wildfires across California, Oregon, Arizona, Washington and Canada have caused significant smoke and haze, prompting air quality alerts.
As of Wednesday, 79 major fires had scorched more than 1.4 million acres in the US and Canada.
In Oregon, the Durkee Fire near the Idaho border remains uncontained, burning nearly 400 square miles.
California faces multiple fires, including the Lake Fire, which has charred nearly 39,000 acres and is 90% contained.
In Arizona, the Black Fire is the largest blaze.
Canada reports 607 active fires, with significant activity in British Columbia and Alberta, triggering mass evacuations.
Both the US and Canada have issued air quality advisories, asking vulnerable groups to limit outdoor activities due to the hazardous smoke conditions.
In Canada, there are about 430 active wildfires in the province of British Columbia and 177 in the neighboring Alberta.
It led to up to 25,000 visitors and residents of Canadian Rockies’ largest national park being evacuated.
