White gunman kills 3 Blacks in racially motivated attack in Florida
TAHHAHASSEE, Florida – A 21-year-old white gunman named Ryan Christopher Palmeter killed three Blacks in a racially motivated attack at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida.
The shooting occurred on Saturday.
The gunman had legally purchased a handgun in April and an AR -15 rifle in June.
The victims of the attack were 52-year-old Angela Michelle Carr, 29-year-old Jerrald Gallion and 19-year-old Anolt Joseph.
The attacker had no criminal record but had been involuntarily detained under the Baker Act in 2017.
The shooter used racial slurs during the attack, left a racist manifesto and had swastikas with Nazi symbols painted on his firearm.
The shooter had been expelled from the campus of a nearby historically university the attack.
He then went to the Dollar General store where the shooting occurred.
The Justice Department is investigating the attack as a hate crime and racially motivated violent extremism.
The shooting occurred on the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s March on Washington against racism.
