Westminster Elects First Muslim Lord Mayor
Hamza Taouzzale has been elected as First Citizen by London’s Westminster City Council.
The 22-year-old is the city’s first incumbent from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background.
Taouzzale recently graduated from King’s College London with a master’s degree in global affairs.
He was elected to represent the interests of the people of Westminster, chair council meetings, and attend local events.
Westminster is the bustling government area near Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.
Neighboring London also has a Muslim Mayor.
