Washington Post to not make presidential endorsement for first time in 40 years
The Washington Post has refused to endorse any candidate for president, in a move not seen since the 1980s.
It also has said it will no longer do so in future presidential elections.
Publisher Will Lewis announced the decision in a post on X on Friday.
He wrote the statement is “in support of our readers’ ability to make up their own minds on this, the most consequential of American decisions – whom to vote for as the next president.”
He also said the publication’s job as the newspaper of the nation’s capital of the most important country in the world is to be independent.
