Victims’ families expect answers to questions raised after Hanau terror attack in Germany
HANAU, Germany (AA) – Families of the victims of the 2020 Hanau terror attack are still awaiting justice, asking the German government to keep its promises.
Hayrettin Saracoglu, the brother of Fatih Saracoglu, who was among those killed during the Islamophobic terror attack in Hanau, shared that the case has yet to be resolved although three years have passed since the reprehensible incident.
He said all questions related to the deadly terror attack remain unanswered.
Many promises and lots of speeches have been made, but there is still no result, he said, adding that many questions are still unanswered.
On February 19, 2020, Tobias Rathjen, a far-right white supremacist, attacked two cafes in the city of Hanau, killing nine young people and injuring five others. All the victims had migrant backgrounds from Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
Before the attack, the far-right terrorist posted videos on the internet, detailing his xenophobic and Islamophobic views. He later killed his own mother and himself.
Saracoglu stressed that questions such as “why did the police go to the murderer’s house late?”, “why wasn’t the emergency phone picked up?” and “how did the killer hold a firearms license if he was mentally ill?” need to be answered by authorities.
On Sunday, a commemoration ceremony was held in Germany to mark the third anniversary of the racist terror attack in Hanau.
