Vance: No pardons for Capitol rioters who committed violence
Vice President-elect JD Vance has clarified his stance on pardoning Capitol rioters.
He said those responsible for violence during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack should not be pardoned.
On “Fox News Sunday,” Vance distinguished between peaceful protesters, who he believes deserve pardons, and those who engaged in violence.
More than 1,500 people have been charged in connection with the attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of then-president Donald Trump.
Many face misdemeanors for illegal entry, while others face felony charges, including assault on police.
Leaders of extremist groups, such as the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys, were convicted of seditious conspiracy.
Vance faced criticism for not supporting blanket pardons but defended his position.
He assured critics that unjust trials and provoked individuals remain a priority.
“We care about those unfairly jailed,” he said, while supporting soon-to-be President Donald Trump’s case-by-case clemency review.
