Uzbekistan to launch national energy efficiency agency
New agency to promote energy-saving initiatives, subsidies, and green standards for manufacturers
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (MNTV) — Uzbekistan is set to establish a National Energy Efficiency Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers as part of a broader effort to improve energy efficiency and foster the growth of energy service companies.
This initiative follows a presidential decree aimed at enhancing public administration in the energy sector and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
The new agency will be responsible for developing and implementing state policies on energy efficiency, managing incentive programs, and overseeing projects that encourage sustainable energy use.
A key focus will be driving energy-saving initiatives through financial incentives and regulatory measures.
Starting July 1, 2025, the agency will offer subsidies for energy audits in residential buildings.
It will also subsidize 20% of the cost of solar panels and collectors, as well as 40% for heat pumps (air, water, and geothermal), with a subsidy cap set at 50 times the base calculation amount (approximately 18.75 million Uzbekistan soms, or $1,449).
By September 1, 2025, the agency plans to launch a digital platform to monitor and enhance energy efficiency, along with an extra-budgetary fund to support and promote energy-saving projects.
Uzbekistan will implement “green” standards for energy-efficient technologies by October 1, 2025, targeting manufacturers and importers.
These measures align with the country’s goal of achieving 50% renewable energy in total generation by 2030.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has consistently emphasized the importance of energy efficiency.
In a public address on March 26, he urged the installation of modern energy-saving equipment at large industrial enterprises to reduce energy waste.
Earlier, during a review of energy efficiency proposals on February 19, he called for stricter measures across regions and industries.
Uzbekistan’s latest energy reforms highlight the country’s growing commitment to sustainability, positioning it as a leader in Central Asia’s transition to greener energy solutions.
