US urges citizens around the world ‘to exercise increased caution’
WASHINGTON (AA) – The State Department urged citizens Thursday to remain on alert around the world due to the heightened potential for attacks against Americans and US interests.
“Due to increased tensions in various locations around the world, the potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations or violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests, the Department of State advises U.S. citizens overseas to exercise increased caution,” the agency said in a global travel advisory.
The advisory comes amid continued Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. Israeli strikes there have killed at least 3,785 Palestinians and wounded more than 12,000.
Israel launched Operation Swords of Iron following a shocking multi-pronged surprise attack by Hamas that included barrages of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel by land, sea, and air. Hamas named its attack Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
Over 1,400 people have been confirmed killed in Israel.
