US to spend $1 billion to fight bird flu, cut eggs prices
The U.S. will spend $1 billion to stop bird flu and lower egg prices.
Bird flu has hit poultry farms hard, cutting egg supplies.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced a comprehensive strategy to combat avian influenza and make eggs affordable.
Rollins said families are seeing egg prices of $6, $7, $10 or more due to continuing outbreaks of the avian influenza.
The U.S. also will import eggs, including 15,000 tons from Türkiye by June.
Rollins said the plan won’t fix things immediately but should stabilize the egg market in 3 to 6 months.
