US to demand access to Israel’s investigation of Turkish-American activist’s killing
U.S. envoy to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield has called Israel’s murder of Turkish American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi in the occupied West Bank a “horrific tragedy.”
She said Washington will demand that Israel provide more details from its investigation into the incident.
Thomas-Greenfield also noted that President Joe Biden has expressed what she called “outrage” over Eygi’s killing.
The envoy said at a UN Security Council session Monday that “no one should have to put their life at risk simply for attending a protest.”
Eygi had traveled to the occupied West Bank to support the Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation, according to the International Solidarity Movement.
Eyewitnesses reported that she was shot in the head by an Israeli sniper.
The autopsy found that a bullet entered through her lower ear area.
