US sanctions Pakistan for long-range missile
The U.S. last week imposed new sanctions on Pakistan’s National Defense Complex and three Karachi-based companies: Affiliates International, Akhtar and Sons Private Limited, and Rockside Enterprise.
Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer raised concerns about Islamabad’s intentions, citing its development of advanced missile technology.
He said that Pakistan is advancing long-range ballistic missile systems capable of reaching targets beyond South Asia, even to the USA.
Pakistan has dismissed U.S. allegations about its missile program’s potential to strike the United States.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Baloch called the claims “unfounded” and “illogical.”
She emphasized that Pakistan’s strategic capabilities are purely defensive, aimed at maintaining regional peace, particularly against archrival India.
Experts argue Pakistan’s missile advancements focus on countering India’s military capabilities.
Previously, the U.S. also sanctioned other Pakistani firms, along with those of China and the United Arab Emirates, over alleged support of weapons and drone development programs in Pakistan and Iran.
