US reaffirms commitment to 2-state solution
The US has reaffirmed its dedication to a two-state solution for the issue of Israel’s occupation of Palestine.
This follows a resolution in the Israeli Knesset against Palestinian statehood.
It was approved by a vote of 68-9, and rejects the establishment of a Palestinian state, citing security concerns and potential instability.
State Department deputy spokesman Vedant Patel emphasized that the US remains committed to advancing peace through a two-state solution.
He said it is the only path to lasting peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians.
While Patel acknowledged the Knesset’s vote, he said the US will continue to engage with Israeli leaders to promote its stance.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with President Joe Biden in Washington on Sunday.
