US proposes reporting requirements for AI developers
The U.S. has proposed mandatory reporting requirements for the world’s leading artificial intelligence developers and cloud providers.
The proposed rules by the Commerce Department would require developers of the most powerful AI models and computing clusters to provide detailed reporting to the federal government.
This includes reporting about developmental activities and cybersecurity measures, which involve testing for dangerous capabilities like the ability to assist in cyberattacks.
Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo says the proposed rule would help keep pace with new developments in AI technology to bolster America’s national defense and safeguard national security.
