US Navy bans China’s DeepSeek AI over security concerns
The U.S. Navy has banned the use of China’s DeepSeek AI, citing security and ethical risks.
A directive sent to Navy personnel warned against using DeepSeek’s AI for any purpose, work-related or personal.
A Navy spokesperson confirmed the restriction on the AI-powered chatbot aligns with official AI policies.
DeepSeek’s R1 AI model has gained traction, even surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT n the Apple App Store.
Despite its lower budget and older chips, the model is seen as a strong competitor.
Its rise has shaken the market, causing AI chipmakers Nvidia and Broadcom to lose 17% in value, wiping out $800 billion.
Experts warn that the AI race between the U.S. and China is intensifying.
In response, the U.S. announced a new AI initiative called Stargate.
It is backed by OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank.
President Donald Trump called DeepSeek a “wake-up call” for Silicon Valley, urging American firms to stay ahead in AI innovation.
