US Judge Strikes Down CDC Mask Mandate For Public Transport
On Monday, a U.S. federal judge struck down the COVID-19 mask mandate for public transportation imposed by the Biden administration.
Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle of the Middle District of Florida said the mask mandate exceeds the statutory authority of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The mandate requiring masks on airplanes, subways, trains, buses, taxis and all other public transportation was recently extended until May 3 amid a rise in cases.
Major U.S. airlines and several Republican lawmakers had called for an end to the mask mandate.
With the latest ruling, the Transportation Security Administration, which runs security at airports, will no longer enforce the mask mandate.
