US intelligence officer resigns, denouncing Israel’s Gaza assault as ethnic cleansing
A US Army officer publicly resigned from the Defense Intelligence Agency saying he refused to be complicit in what he termed Israel’s “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians in Gaza.
In a letter published on LinkedIn, Major Harrison Mann expressed increasing discomfort with the US-backed Israeli bombardment, particularly as his work directly contributed to it.
He highlighted the moral dilemma of advancing policies leading to the starvation of the Palestinian people.
Mann wrote that as the descendant of European Jews, he was raised in a particularly unforgiving moral environment when it came to bearing responsibility for ethnic cleansing.
Feds United for Peace, a coalition of federal employees advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza, lauded Mann’s stance.
Earlier, foreign affairs officer Annelle Sheline resigned from her post in the State Department.
Education Department official Tariq Habash, a Palestinian American, also resigned in protest earlier this year.
In February, US Air Force member Aaron Bushnell died after self-immolating in front of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC.
Analysts say Mann’s publicized resignation signals growing dissent within federal ranks against US foreign policy, particularly regarding Israel’s war on Gaza.
