University teacher banned after verbal attack on woman in hijab
Arizona State University professor Jonathan Yudelman has been banned from teaching after a video surfaced of him verbally assaulting a woman wearing hijab.
The altercation took place during a pro-Israel rally near campus.
ASU President Michael Crow announced that Yudelman, a postdoctoral research scholar, will never teach at the university again.
The video, which was widely circulated on social media, shows Yudelman cursing the woman, who expressed discomfort with his disrespect for her religious boundaries.
The professor was already on leave and had resigned before the incident.
ASU referred the matter to the Tempe Police Department for investigation.
Observers say the incident reflects a broader context of tensions on college campuses regarding Israel’s occupation of Palestine.
Protestors are urging their institutions to divest from Israel, and clashes have erupted between demonstrators and law enforcement.
ASU has reiterated its commitment to free speech while condemning threatening or violent behavior.
