University Of Michigan Adds Professorship In South Asian Art
The University of Michigan is adding a professorship in South Asian Art and launching a collaboration with the South Asia Institute in Chicago.
The new position in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts’ Department of History of Art is made possible by a gift from Drs. Shireen and Afzal Ahmad.
The $2.75 million endowment to the Shireen and Afzal Ahmad Professorship in South Asian Arts will foster the next generation of scholars, curators, conservators and critics.
College Dean Anne Curzan said endowed professorships are a hallmark of academic quality and a means by which a university honors its most esteemed faculty.
The Ahmads, who are physicians and philanthropists in Chicago, founded the South Asia Institute.
