UN sounds alarm over distribution of 120,000 weapons to Israeli civilians
The UN has raised serious concerns over Israel’s recent announcement that more than 120,000 weapons have been distributed to its citizens in the past year, with more planned.
Spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office Jeremy Laurence has highlighted the alarming timing of this mass distribution.
Reports show a surge in Israeli settler-related violence directed at Palestinians, with firearms involved in a significant portion of incidents.
Laurence also emphasized inflammatory rhetoric from officials, particularly National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, which has worsened tensions.
At least 719 Palestinians have been reported killed and thousands injured in the West Bank since October last year.
The UN continues to call for Israeli leaders to curb hate speech, adhere to international humanitarian law and stop its violence.
