UN Political Chief Says Lives Of Millions Of Ukrainians Depend On ‘Intensified’ Diplomacy
As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues, world leaders Thursday emphasized the importance of diplomatic discussions to end the war.
Leaders also called for probes of Russian attacks on civilians and infrastructure.
Direct talks between Ukrainian and Russian representatives this week gave hope to some that the conflict is moving toward a positive direction.
Rosemary DiCarlo, United Nations under-secretary-general for political and peacebuilding affairs, on Thursday welcomed “all such engagements.”
Yet, talks have not translated into “the cessation of hostilities that is so desperately needed,” she told the U.N. Security Council.
DiCarlo underscored the need for “intensified and coordinated political efforts” to end the war.
