UN Envoy Seeks Yemen Truce During Ramadan
United Nations special envoy Hans Grundberg said Sunday he is seeking a truce in Yemen during Ramadan, which is expected to start April 2.
Grundberg met Saturday with Houthi chief negotiator Mohammed Abdulsalam and Omani officials.
Oman maintains good relations with the Houthi rebels and the Yemeni government.
The group discussed “ongoing U.N. consultations and efforts to address the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen,” Grundberg’s office said on Twitter.
Grundberg said talks dwelt on the implementation of a possible truce adding he will continue “discussions with the parties to the conflict”.
He held talks earlier this month in Jordan with several Yemeni parties.
Yemen has been engulfed by violence and instability since 2014, when Houthi rebels captured much of the country, including the capital Sanaa.
