UN chief strongly condemns Gaza hospital attack
WASHINGTON (AA) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned Tuesday’s deadly attack on the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza which left hundreds of people dead.
“I am horrified by the killing of hundreds of Palestinian civilians in a strike on a hospital in Gaza today, which I strongly condemn,” Guterres said on X.
“My heart is with the families of the victims. Hospitals and medical personnel are protected under international humanitarian law,” he wrote.
More than 500 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.
Footage on social media showed corpses scattered across the hospital grounds.
According to a reporter, thousands of Palestinians were at the hospital when the building came under heavy bombardment.
