UN Chief Says At Least 10,000 Children Killed In Yemen Conflict
At least 10,000 children have died in Yemen’s nearly eight-year war, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Wednesday.
His comments came as international attention remains focused on the war in Ukraine.
Though Yemen hasn’t been making headlines, “the human suffering has not relented,” he said.
The Yemeni people have suffered “death, destruction, displacement, starvation, terror, division, and destitution on a massive scale,” he said.
Millions of Yemenis are facing extreme hunger, yet the World Food Programme has had to cut rations in half due to the lack of funds, he said.
The U.N. launched an appeal for $4.27 billion to address Yemen’s humanitarian crises as international funding runs dry.
