Ukraine Civilians Learning to Make, Use Molotov Cocktail
LVIV, UKRAINE – Ukrainian civilians are racing to prepare for urban warfare as the war against Russia comes closer to their doorstep.
The city of Lviv has been relatively safe thus far, but possible urban warfare looms threateningly.
People with the know-how are teaching the residents of Lviv how to throw a Molotov cocktail to face off Russian tanks.
The Molotov cocktail is a common name for the simplest improvised explosive devices based on a flammable mixture.
Since such a bomb is easy to make, it is often used during guerrilla and street wars.
People feel the need to learn these skills in order to be able to defend themselves, their families and their country.
After the government’s call Ukrainians have mobilized to make Molotov cocktails across the country amid fears of possible Russian intrusion.
Ukrainian men and women have volunteered to get weapons and learn how to defend their country. The country has already banned men between the ages of 18 and 60 from leaving the country.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law on March 9 allowing civilians to use weapons during wartime.
The law on Ensuring the Participation of Civilians in the Defense of Ukraine regulates “the procedure for issuing and returning firearms and ammunition to civilians to protect the country during wartime and stipulates that civilians are not responsible for the use of firearms against persons who carry out armed aggression against Ukraine,” Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, said in a statement.
Additionally, Ukrainian citizens have the opportunity to participate in repelling and deterring armed aggression by the Russian Federation and/or other states using their own weapons.
