UK Muslim council slams Islamophobia remarks by Conservative leader
The Muslim Council of Britain or MCB has criticized Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch for Islamophobic remarks made during a Prime Minister’s Questions session.
Badenoch claimed that Muslims use Islamophobia to interfere in cases of child abuse and exploitation.
She specifically linked the All-Party Parliamentary Group or APPG on British Muslims’ definition of Islamophobia to hindering crime investigations.
The MCB rejected Badenoch’s claim as false, saying the definition clearly separates criminal probes from racist stereotypes.
It emphasized that government and independent studies show that child exploitation offenders are predominantly white, not Muslim.
According to the Home Office’s 2020 findings and the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse’s data for 2022/23, group-based child sexual exploitation offenders most commonly are white.
MCB Secretary-General Zara Mohammed called for unity and evidence-based approaches, condemning efforts to demonize British Muslims.
She said British Muslims strongly support all child abuse investigations.
The MCB urged Badenoch to retract her “divisive” remarks, accusing her of exploiting child protection issues for political purposes.
