UK condemns latest North Korea missile launch
LONDON – The British government has condemned the North Korean government over the launch of a ballistic missile.
The Foreign Office said the latest launch breaches several UN Security Council resolutions and endangers the stability of the region as well as the international community.
“The UK condemns North Korea’s ballistic missile launch on 16 April in breach of UN Security Council resolutions,” a spokesperson from the Foreign Office said in a statement.
“We strongly encourage North Korea to change course and to abandon its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner,” the statement added.
The Foreign Office also made clear that sanctions against Pyongyang must remain in place until such changes are undertaken by the regime.
“Until we see credible steps towards this goal, sanctions must continue to be enforced.”
On April 16, Pyongyang tested what its state media called a “new-type tactical guided weapon,” becoming its 12th missile test this year.
The ballistic missile launch drew condemnation from the international community with US officials calling for a strong response.
