UAE’s Abu Dhabi launches tree-planting initiative to foster sustainability
Initiative underscores commitment to harmonizing economic growth with environmental responsibility
ABU DHABI, UAE (MNTV) – Abu Dhabi has launched a new tree-planting initiative to promote sustainability and expand green spaces in the UAE capital.
In alignment with 2025 being declared the ‘Year of the Community,’ Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in partnership with Miral and ALEC, has inaugurated a tree-planting initiative at Al Masar Park in Khalifa City.
Miral Group is an Abu Dhabi-based company specializing in the creation of leisure and entertainment destinations.
ALEC is a prominent construction company based in the Middle East.
Titled ‘Planting the Roots of a Sustainable Future,’ the project involves the planting of 300 trees, reinforcing Miral’s dedication to environmental conservation as a core component of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy.
The event saw participation from over 200 individuals, including employees from Miral, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, and ALEC, along with approximately 80 students from Yas American Academy and Al Yasmina British Academy.
A total of 200 Ghaf trees, 50 Delonix Regia (Flame trees), and 50 Azadirachta Indica (Neem trees) were planted, promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.
Additionally, attendees were educated on the ecological and cultural importance of Ghaf trees, which play a vital role in supporting the Middle East’s ecosystem.
Taghrid AlSaeed, executive director of Marketing, Communications, and Events at Miral, stated: “Our vision is to develop world-class destinations that not only deliver exceptional experiences but also contribute to a sustainable future.”
“The Ghaf tree, a symbol of resilience and heritage in the UAE, represents our long-term commitment to environmental protection”, he added.
Salma Al Mansouri, director of Al Tawajud Al Baladi emphasized Abu Dhabi Municipality’s support for initiatives that enhance quality of life.
She noted the project’s alignment with the ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Programme, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
This initiative seeks to advance agricultural development, strengthen food security, and expand green spaces.
Dewald Smith, senior project Manager at ALEC, commented: “Sustainability is integral to our operations. Partnering with Miral and Abu Dhabi Municipality on this initiative allows us to contribute meaningfully to the communities we serve.”
The Ghaf tree, designated as the UAE’s national tree in 2008, symbolizes endurance and adaptability.
Similarly, the Delonix Regia and Azadirachta Indica are robust species that enhance biodiversity and support Abu Dhabi’s natural ecosystem.
Launched in September 2023, Miral’s Group CSR Strategy prioritizes eight key pillars: Skill Development & Livelihood, Education, Social Welfare, Health & Wellness, Promotion of Sports, Arts, Culture & Tourism, Environment, and Animal Welfare.
Through these efforts, Abu Dhabi continues to engage diverse stakeholders, driving meaningful and sustainable environmental progress.
