UAE provides Zimbabwe with grain to boost food security
8,530 tonnes of maize pledged to support rural communities and strengthen national food programs
HARARE, Zimbabwe (MNTV) — Zimbabwe has received a vital boost in food security through a donation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), aimed at supporting vulnerable communities and reinforcing national relief efforts.
According to The Herald, the UAE has pledged 8,530 tonnes of maize, with an initial shipment of 700 tonnes already delivered.
The contribution is intended to help alleviate food shortages and assist struggling populations.
Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe said the donation aligns with Zimbabwe’s Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy, which provides relief during economic hardships.
Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare Minister Edgar Moyo confirmed that the maize will be milled into mealie meal before distribution to ensure efficient delivery.
UAE Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jassim Mohammed Al Qasimi, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to assisting Zimbabwe, emphasizing that no community should be left behind in achieving food security.
The donation highlights growing cooperation between the UAE and Zimbabwe, as well as increasing engagement by Middle Eastern nations in Africa’s development efforts.
