UAE hosts Ramadan-inspired events celebrating culture, art
Series of cultural initiatives offer a thematic exploration of Ramadan’s traditions through art and performances
ABU DHABI, UAE (MNTV) – The UAE is currently hosting a variety of events and exhibitions inspired by the holy month of Ramadan, offering an immersive look into its cultural and artistic significance.
The range of activities – from calligraphy exhibitions to interactive workshops and theatrical performances – provides a unique platform for both local and international artists to celebrate Ramadan’s deep-rooted traditions.
One of the standout exhibitions is Eternal Letters, held at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, showcasing 81 rare Qur’an manuscripts from the private collection of Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, UAE Minister of Health and Prevention.
The exhibition spans over a thousand years of Islamic history and highlights calligraphic styles from regions such as China, Turkey, Iran, and the Mediterranean.
The rare collection offers a rare glimpse into the evolution of Arabic calligraphy, illustrating its religious and artistic significance.
Alongside the exhibition, the museum is hosting Ramadan Lamma, a program designed to engage visitors through hands-on activities.
Running Thursday to Sunday, the program includes workshops on acrylic lantern painting, gold-leaf lettering, and crafting prayer beads, offering visitors of all ages the chance to explore their creativity while learning about Ramadan traditions.
For those seeking a more immersive artistic experience, Echoes of the Crescent, an exhibition at The Dubai Balloon, features works by UAE-based artists Haneen Al Rifai, Maria Munteanu, and Sana Maarrawi.
Running until March 30, the exhibition explores Arabic traditions such as calligraphy, falconry, chivalry, and hospitality.
Entrance to the exhibition is included with a ticket to The Dubai Balloon, priced at Dh175 for adults and Dh75 for children.
The UAE’s rich cultural offerings during Ramadan also extend to the theater.
Thousand and One Nights, a theatrical production inspired by the legendary tales of Scheherazade and Shahryar, is being staged at Dubai’s The Junction.
Directed by Indian actress Rasika Agashe, the play is part of Interrupting Patterns, a Ramadan-themed program at Alserkal Avenue.
The program also includes storytelling sessions for children, embroidery workshops, and comic book illustration classes.
These events are more than just a celebration of Ramadan; they serve as platforms for artistic expression, community engagement, and cultural exchange.
Through exhibitions, workshops, and performances, the UAE is highlighting the deep connection between art, tradition, and spirituality during the holy month.
