U.S. SHATTERS HOSPITALIZATION RECORD FOR CORONAVIRUS PATIENTS
The United States set a record Tuesday for the number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus, shattering a previous high set in January 2021.
Nationwide over 145,000 people were hospitalized with the virus, according to the US Health and Human Services Department.
Cases have been spiking across the country as the omicron variant has led to an unprecedented winter surge.
Roughly 1.5 million cases were registered Monday, data from Johns Hopkins University show.
The vast majority of people being hospitalized with infections are unvaccinated.
Vaccinated people are about five times less likely to become infected.
