U.S. fighter jets strike Iran-backed groups in eastern Syria
ANKARA, Türkiye – U.S. jets have conducted airstrikes against Iran-backed groups in the eastern Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor.
The area is also the scene of clashes between Arab tribes and Kurdish armed groups PKK and YPG.
Local informants told Turkiye’s Anadolu news agency that these groups had gathered between Abu Kamal and the Euphrates River.
Two military vehicles were hit in the airstrikes, causing casualties and detonating munitions on board.
Iranian-backed groups are present in several districts in eastern Deir ez-Zor. Central and western parts of the province.
These areas were brought under the control of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in November 2017 with the support of Iranian-allied groups and Russia.
In the same area, recently a Kurdish terrorist group launched a rocket attack that killed six people and injured eight.
Arab tribes retaliated by shelling Kurdish strongholds backed by the U.S. with heavy artillery.
