U.S. Considers Algeria As An Alternative Energy Source
The U.S. has asked to meet with energy companies operating in Algeria to see if more gas can be sourced from there, Reuters reports.
Washington is intensifying efforts to find alternative gas supplies for Europe in case there is a disruption from the standoff between Russia and Ukraine.
The European Union depends on Russia for more than a third of its gas.
Any interruption of flows would worsen an energy crisis that already has led to skyrocketing consumer bills.
The U.S. has requested a meeting with Eni, one of Algeria’s biggest foreign producers, and France’s TotalEnergies, Reuters reported.
