U.S. Capitol Police Officer Who Distracted Jan 6 Insurrectionists Gives First Interview
U.S. Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman, who saved the lives of lawmakers during the January 6 2021 insurrection, broke his yearlong silence on Monday.
Goodman appeared on the podcast “3 Brothers No Sense.”
He said the insurrection “could have easily been a blood bath.”
Goodman led rioters bent on attacking US lawmakers up the stairs and away from the Senate chamber that day.
His heroics were caught on camera in a now viral video that came to light during former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate.
It showed Goodman also guided Sen. Mitt Romney back to the Senate chamber, helping him narrowly avoid contact with the rioters.
Goodman said he kicked into “go mode” and relied heavily on previous military training to guide him during the insurrection.
