Türkiye’s presidential spokesman meets with White House national security aide
ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin on Sunday met with US White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in Istanbul.
Türkiye-US bilateral relations, cooperation areas in the defense industry, the Russia-Ukraine war, the NATO membership processes of Sweden and Finland, and regional issues were on the agenda in the meeting between the two senior officials in the Turkish metropolis.
Kalin voiced expectations on the expansion of cooperation areas on the basis of common interests with the establishment of the Türkiye-US Strategic Mechanism last October.
He also emphasized that the completion of the process related to US sale and modernization of F-16 fighter jets to Türkiye would serve the strategic interests of both countries.
Pointing to Ankara’s key role in NATO, Kalin stressed that the allies should act in harmony and solidarity against common security risks and all terrorist threats.
He emphasized that Türkiye would not hesitate to protect its rights and interests in the Aegean and Mediterranean and that aggressive actions by Greece in violation of international law were unacceptable.
On the Russia-Ukraine war, Kalin underlined the importance of diplomatic efforts to end the conflict on the basis of international law.
