Türkiye puts values 1st in classrooms
ANKARA, Türkiye (MNTV) — Türkiye unveils a values-based approach to schooling under the new Türkiye Century Education Model, aiming to foster kindness, unity, and national spirit among students.
In a Ramadan iftar address attended by President Erdoğan, Education Minister Yusuf Tekin said Türkiye is placing a renewed focus on ethical and social values in education, aiming to nurture a generation grounded in kindness, responsibility, and national unity. Speaking at an iftar gathering on Monday evening, Education Minister Yusuf Tekin highlighted the country’s commitment to instilling core virtues in students, including honesty, self-discipline, respect, patriotism, and generosity.
Addressing educators and officials, Tekin said the occasion was part of Türkiye’s broader efforts to infuse schools with the spirit and principles of Ramadan.
“This year, we wanted our children and young people to genuinely feel and live the spirit of Ramadan,” Tekin said. He linked this effort to the newly launched Türkiye Century Education Model, set to shape curricula beginning with the 2024–2025 academic year.
The initiative goes beyond classroom instruction. Students across the country engaged in Ramadan-themed projects, decorated their schools, kept “kindness notebooks,” hosted communal iftar meals, and prepared aid packages for those in need. Tekin said these hands-on activities were instrumental in fostering empathy, solidarity, and national awareness.
“Despite criticism from certain political and ideological quarters, our children embraced these values with enthusiasm and joy,” the minister stated, describing the response as a testament to the unifying power of shared cultural and ethical traditions.
The minister also credited President Erdoğan’s leadership and support in promoting values-based education, aligning with the broader vision of the “Century of Türkiye”—a national campaign aimed at shaping the country’s future direction over the next hundred years.
Closing his remarks, Tekin thanked Erdoğan for hosting the evening’s iftar and extended warm wishes for the upcoming Ramadan Bayram, Türkiye’s Eid al-Fitr celebration.
