Turkiye launches large-scale operation in northern Syria
ANKARA (AA) – Turkish commando teams on Saturday launched a large-scale operation in northern Syria in response to the killing of a Turkish police officer allegedly by the PKK.
The operation was supported by artillery fire, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said that any attack would be met with a heavy response and efforts to destabilize the region would not be tolerated.
Military sources said at least 50 PKK fighters have been killed in the ongoing operations in the region.
Turkiye alleges that the PKK has been responsible for the deaths of around 40,000 people over last 35 years.
