Turkish Yunus Emre Institute reviving Thuluth Calligraphy Art
KABUL (AA) – Türkiye’s Yunus Emre Institute is reviving Thuluth calligraphy, which is threatened with extinction in Afghanistan.
The institute has established Thuluth calligraphy classes on the campus of Kabul University to pass on the dying art to the next generation.
Currently, nearly 20 students from university professions are taking the courses.
Each of them practices for a long time to reinforce what they have learned after class.
The courses, which started in the first week of July, will continue until December and participation is free.
The Thuluth script dates back to the time of the Ummayad Caliphate in the seventh century and is a large and elegant cursive script used for decorations.
Thuluth is rarely used for writing Quranic texts.
However, it was used for grand architectural decorations, tombstones, manuscripts, ceramics, and metalwork.
