Turkish soldier killed in northern Iraq operation
ANKARA – A Turkish soldier was killed during a military operation in northern Iraq, Turkiye’s National Defense Ministry has stated.
Furkan Gok, an infantry specialist sergeant, was killed in clashes with PKK fighters during Turkiye’s recently launched cross-border operation Operation Claw-Lock.
Turkiye launched Operation Claw-Lock this week to target PKK sanctuaries in Iraq’s Metina, Zap and Avasin-Basyan areas.
This was preceded by Operations Claw-Tiger and Claw-Eagle, which were launched in 2020 to root out PKK presence in northern Iraq.
