Trump’s VP calls UK an ‘Islamist country’
Donald Trump’s vice-presidential nominee, JD Vance, has drawn criticism for describing the UK as a potential “Islamist country” that has nuclear weapons under a Labour government.
Vance, who is a junior senator from Ohio, made the remarks at a National Conservatism conference.
He has suggested that with Labour’s recent electoral success earlier this month, the UK could be another Islamic country to have nuclear capability.
Trump is known for his 2017 Muslim ban and for routinely denigrating Muslim countries.
The UK’s ruling Labour has sharply rejected Vance’s comments, with Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner calling them baseless.
She emphasized Labour’s commitment to representing all communities in the UK and collaborating with international allies.
