Trump’s plan to take over Gaza ‘unacceptable and dangerous,’ says Scottish first minister
LONDON (AA) – The first minister of Scotland on Wednesday rejected US President Donald Trump’s plan to “take over” Gaza after resettling Palestinians elsewhere, saying there must be no ethnic cleansing.
“After months of collective punishment and the death of over 40,000 in Gaza, any suggestion Palestinians should be removed from their home is unacceptable and dangerous,” John Swinney wrote on X.
US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the “US will take over the Gaza Strip,” shortly after suggesting a permanent resettlement of Palestinians outside Gaza.
“The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,” he said during a news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“There must be no ethnic cleansing. Only a proper two state solution will bring lasting peace,” noted Swinney.
Forcibly displacing a population without justification under international law constitutes a war crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
