Trump proposes sending political opponents to Gitmo, claims official
Taylor, who served Trump administration says, only reason that kept former president from sending people to Gitmo was that it proved too expensive
WASHINGTON – Former official Miles Taylor claims Donald Trump during his presidency once considered sending his political enemies to the dreaded Guantanamo Bay detention center.
Taylor, who served in the Department of Homeland Security said the only reason that kept Trump from sending people to Gitmo was that it proved too expensive.
On a talk show he said Trump wanted to use Guantanamo Bay to house “people from the southern border” and “send a message”
Trump had signed an executive order in 2018 to keep Guantanamo Bay open.
This suggests that Trump was serious about using the facility to detain his political enemies, even if he ultimately decided against it.
