Trump Endorses Dr. Oz For U.S. Senate
Former U.S. president Donald Trump endorsed Dr. Mehmet Oz for U.S. Senate, ahead of a Republican primary in Pennsylvania.
Trump praised Oz’s medical and academic credentials.
If he wins the Republican nomination on May 17, Oz will be the first Muslim to be nominated for a Senate seat by a major American political party.
Sixty-one year old Oz is the son of Turkish immigrants.
He was a widely known cardiothoracic surgeon and Columbia University professor of medicine, before rising to national prominence on television.
He was a frequent guest on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show before debuting his own syndicated show in 2009.
Oz vows to renounce his Turkish citizenship if elected to the US Senate.
