Trump appoints Stephen Miller of Muslim ban as his deputy chief of staff
President-elect Donald Trump has appointed staunchly anti-immigrant Stephen Miller his deputy chief of staff for policy.
Miller was responsible for the Muslim travel ban and the separation of migrant families during Trump’s first term in office.
The New York Times says his role “is expected to be vast and to far exceed what the eventual title will convey.”
The Times of Israel calls Miller one of Trump’s most prominent Jewish advisers.
Miller has said Trump would cancel the temporary protected status of thousands of pro-U.S. Afghans, and end the DACA program protecting students brought to the U.S. as children.
He wants to use the National Guard to arrest migrants and detain them in military camps before deportation.
Vice President-elect JD Vance praised Miller’s selection as “another fantastic pick by the president.”
