TikTok creators fight to block app ban, cite free speech threats
TikTok creators have urged the U.S. Supreme Court to block a looming ban on the app, arguing that it threatens free speech.
They dismissed classified evidence, claiming the law cannot stand on the public record alone.
The creators challenged the Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which is set to take effect soon.
TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, also called for halting enforcement, labeling the ban unconstitutional.
Attorneys highlighted threats to free speech for TikTok’s 170 million users, warning that Congress could censor views it dislikes.
The U.S. government defended the law, citing national security risks tied to TikTok’s Chinese ownership.
ByteDance, and the Department of Justice will face off in court on January 10.
