Texas woman charged with attempted murder of 3-year-old Muslim child
A 42-year-old woman has been charged for attempting to drown a three-year-old Palestinian-American girl in Texas.
According to reports, Elizabeth Wolf approached the child’s mother at a swimming pool, making racist inquiries about their nationality and language before attacking.
She jumped into the pool and tried to drag two children to the deep end.
While the elder one escaped, she held the three-year-old’s head underwater.
The child’s mother, fearing for her safety, intervened as Wolf reportedly held the child underwater and assaulted her.
Wolf was initially arrested for public intoxication but later released on bail.
The mother says the child is traumatized and hides whenever the apartment door opens.
The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for a hate crime investigation and heightened bail conditions.
Shaimaa Zayan, operations manager of the Texas chapter of the Council of American-Islamic Relations or CAIR, is seeking a hate crime probe and a higher bail bound against the accused.
She has also urged an open conversation with officials to address this alarming increase in Islamophobia sentiment.
Observers say the case underscores rising concerns over Islamophobia and anti-Arab sentiment in the US, which has become worse since Israel began its war on Gaza last October.
